Motion Design Trends

Web designers are using active design elements as a great way to capture visitor attention and create interest. These can include scrolling effects scrolling effects where motion on the page is initiated when the user scrolls up or down, Animated Illustrations, Cinemagraphs, Animated Cursors, Kinetic Typography or text in motion. One simple way of adding moytion on a web site t is to add video as a background to add interest.

Typography

Typography trends for 2023 include the use of Thin Serif Fonts moving toward the sophisticated look of a thinner serif, combining Horizontal and Vertical Text and then Overlapping Text and Images for a modern feel. Theres also a move to the use of Typographic Hero instead if an image and can be very eye-catching.  Retro-style lettering from the 1960s and 1990s is making a comeback and can look really good.

Revival of Retro Styles

There’s also a going to be a move to more retro styling of Art Deco ( 1920’s glamour, Memphis Design ( a 1980s design aesthetic characterised by scattered, brightly coloured shapes and lines) and Subtle Brutalism (a gentler version).

Technical Trends

Some trends are set to continue for 2023:

Prioritising Download Speeds especially for mobile, Smart Content Loading, Personalised Content by using user data and location services, Accessibility and Availability. Finally, thumb-friendly Mobile Navigation is a must.
